Introduction to ISO 26000:2010 – Social Responsibility

ISO 26000:2010 is an international standard that provides comprehensive guidance on social responsibility for all types of organizations—regardless of size, sector, or location. Unlike other ISO standards, it is not certifiable, but offers a voluntary framework to help organizations operate in a socially responsible and ethically sound manner.

The standard encourages organizations to go beyond legal compliance and proactively contribute to sustainable development, aligning their strategies and operations with societal expectations and environmental concerns.

ISO 26000 is built around seven core principles:

  • Accountability
  • Transparency
  • Ethical behavior
  • Respect for stakeholder interests
  • Respect for the rule of law
  • Respect for international norms of behavior
